Kiva – loans that change lives

This post is enitrely non-knitting related, but what it is about excites me so much that I must share…Kiva. Kiva is an organization that provides loans to people in countries like Uganda. They use the money start their own businesses.

Doing so empowers them with a sustainable way to provide for their families and pull themselves out of poverty. You can read complete details about how it works and the benefits here.

Some really neat things about the organization are that you get to select who your money goes to, 100% of the money goes to that person (no administrative fees) and you receive updates about how the business is doing. You don’t have provide the full loan, you can loan $25, or as much as you’d like. And, what’s really amazing is that it’s a loan. That means you’re going to get the money back, giving you the opportunity to help another business start using that same money. Wow!
