We’re well into October–National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Maybe you’re one who raises money this month in support of breast cancer awareness. Maybe the flood of pink passes by you without a thought. Maybe it all touches very close to home. Maybe not. Whatever your attention to the efforts this month is, please use the month of October as a reminder of a very important thing–breast exams.
According to the National Cancer Institute, when breast cancer is detected early, in the localized stage, the 5-year survival rate is 98%. Ninety-eight percent. That’s incredible. Sadly, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Here’s what you need to do:
Year-round Jordana Paige donates 10% of the suggested retail price of The Knitter’s Satchel in Pink to the fight against breast cancer. This month, we wanted to draw extra attention to breast cancer awareness. We’ve teamed up with Kellie Judson at Aloette to offer an awesome giveaway.
Kellie is far too familiar with breast cancer. She says, “Cancer seems to be everywhere; I know in my family it is. From my mother, to my aunt, to both of my grandmothers, cancer has been impossible to avoid in my family. Both of my grandmothers and my aunt have had breast cancer; we lost my aunt to it and my grandmothers are still recovering because we caught it early. I have watched them fight and I know that I am even more at risk because it has been in my family. It’s so important to catch it early and I really want women to know what they need to do to be aware and informed so that if they do get breast cancer, it is caught early and can be beat! Let’s ‘fight like a girl’ and beat this thing.”
This month, Kellie will be donating 40% of her commissionable sales of Aloette products to breast cancer research. Her goal is to raise $500. Plus, she’s filling our pink Knitter’s Satchel with great products, which includes Body Souffle and Aloette’s all-star product, Restorative Enzyme Peel.
And you could win it all!
One entry will be given for each of the following actions. If you’ve already done any one of these things, you don’t need to do it again. You have already received the entry for that action.
1. Comment on this blog post telling us when you last performed a breast self-exam and when your next mammogram is scheduled for. Yeah, we’re getting personal. Be sure to include your email address so we can contact you if you win.
Entries must be received by Monday, October 28, 2013 at 3:00pm PST. The winner will be drawn at random and contacted by email on October 29th.
