Have you started knitting your wardrobe for the coming months? Here’s a little inspiration from Leigh. She knit Landon for her mother, Cheryl. Can’t you just feel the fresh, icy air on your cheeks as you walk down the street wrapped in a warm wool sweater?

Here’s what Leigh said about the pattern:

It was a great pattern and a joy to knit. This project was sort of a family affair; It was the first sweater I’d made for my mother (pictured), who is so pleased with the result and wears it all the time. Also, the walnut shawl pin closure was carved by my husband.

Day 20: Handknit Sweaters > Store Bought

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Jacket: Landon by Jordana Paige
Jeans: Express
Boots: Don’t remember
Scarf and Broach: Gifts

As I was wearing Landon today, I got to thinking about the yarn. Maybe I’m just buying the wrong store bought sweaters, but they’re never as soft and cozy as handknit sweaters. Knitters really have top choice on yarn selection. Then I thought about how people usually associate handknit sweaters with scratchy, acrylic, shapeless sweaters made by their grandmothers. How fortunate for us that we’re not limited anymore.

I have a special little extra element to the sweater contest that I’ll be announcing tomorrow morning. You’re going to love it…free stuff! Check back tomorrow.

Day 9: Lovely Landon

Jacket: Landon by Jordana Paige
Pants: Banana Republic
Boots: Don’t remember
Earrings: Ralph Lauren
Shawl pin: South 4th Woodcraft on Etsy
Purse: The Knitter’s Satchel by Jordana Paige

Today was another meeting day so I paired Landon with my pinstripe pants. I’d never played too much with the different ways of closing Landon. Depending on how high or low the shawl pin is, a different look can be created. Next time I wear it this month, I think I’ll try pinning it closed closer to the hem, or even wearing it open.

We Have a Winner!

Congratulations to Astrid, the first to finish knitting Landon. She knit the sweater in just three days! I’m absolutely amazed. Astrid will be receiving a Rio bag of her choice.

And they’re off…

The race is on to be the first to finish Landon. I just started wondering, how fast will the winner be? What do you think?

Win a Rio Bag

Friday, October 10th, 2008

I’ve decided that having contests and giving away bags is simply fun. It’s about time for another one. This time, I’m going to make you work a little bit harder than I have for past contests.

Here’s the deal. On October 23rd I will be releasing the pattern for my latest sweater design, Landon (pictured left). The first person to knit the sweater and send me photographs will win a Rio in the color of her choosing.

Edit 10/23: Link to download pattern.

The Rules
1. The photographs have to clearly show the sweater is complete, meaning they can’t cut off the sweater in certain parts.
2. Minor modifications are allowed. For example, adding button holes. Major modifications, like making it baby-size so you can finish first isn’t allowed. If you’re not sure about a modification, email me and I’ll let you know if it’s okay or not.
3. The sweater doesn’t have to be blocked, but the trims have to be sewn on and the ends woven in.
4. I get to be the judge and final say on whether or not a garment meets the above rules.
5. Void where prohibited.

To enter, make sure you’re on our mailing list to receive an email as soon as the pattern is available for sale. Below are the pattern details so you can pre-order your yarn and have it ready to go on October 23rd.

Description
Landon is worked from the top down. Stitches are cast on for the front, back and sleeves. Additional stitches are cast on at the neck for the charted cable pattern. Stitches are picked up at the center front to continue the cable pattern around the neck. The sides of the cardigan taper out from the armhole to the hem. The sleeves follow this same tapered shape. A cabled trim is sew on to the hem. The cardigan is finished with a shawl pin.
