Spring is here which means it’s time to put away those warm wool sweaters and switch to some lacy cotton knits…something like, say, Annie. Here’s Annmarie‘s Annie. She made it in Karabella’s Vintage Cotton. It’s on display at Bobbin’s Nest Studio in Santa Clara. Stop by to check it out in person.

Selecting the first JP design to wear today was easy; Annie is one of the designs I’m most proud, so I was eager to wear it.
When I style for a photo shoot I have to make sure all elements of the garment are shown to communicate the design. For this challenge, only style matters. Since I didn’t need to show the hem, I decided to tuck the top in and cinch a belt around my waist. As you’ll soon learn, adding a belt at my waist is one of my favorite ways to accessorize. I really like the silhouette it creates.
This morning I had a hair appointment, ran some errands and then to the office. It sounds silly, but I always like wearing something pretty when I have my hair done so that when the cape is whipped off I feel fabulous from head to toe. I really like this look. It’s flirty, girly and fun.
The pattern for Catalina is now available. It’s a lovely little cardigan to wear with those flower-print dresses I was talking about a few days ago. The pattern is worked in lace, but it’s charted to make increasing simple. There’s four charts for each size. It can seem a bit overwhelming at first, but once the first chunk of rows are established the stitch pattern can be seen and it moves right along.
Last week I taught Catalina on a cruise to Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico. Since we ported in the island of the cardigan’s namesake, I had to do another photo shoot while there. I put together a little video of the shoot.
The cruise was delightful. We did a lot of knitting, eating, relaxing, knitting, eating, reading, knitting and eating. Unfortunately, we were unable to port in Ensenada due to the swine flu, but the captain found us a warm spot in the sun so we could get caught up on our knitting, eating and relaxing. Below is a photo of me with the wonderful group of knitters on the cruise and also a photo of Cyndee wearing Annie made from Blue Heron yarn. It looked so great on her and I was thrilled when she told me how much she had enjoyed making it. Cyndee must have changed her clothes four times each day so she could show off another garment she had knit. A true knitter!
Above is fashion spread by 831 Magazine of my bags and pattern Annie. I think it is so gorgeous! The colors are vibrant and rich. I love the different textures from the croc leather to the softness of BeautifulJean’s feather pieces. Just gorgeous.
I’ve always wanted to have my designs in the fashion spread of magazine, not just a product review, but an actual styled, primped and glossy spread…just like this. It’s been one of things on my goal list, kind of like being a guest on Oprah (hey, I’m ticking the goals off, you never know). Last fall I attended a fashion show where I met Alli of 831 Magazine. We chatted and I showed her Bronze Bella which I was carrying that evening. In her wonderful Australian accent she offered to do a fashion spread of my bags. Thrilled, I sent her some bags and a couple weeks later she called wanting to include one of my knitwear designs. Even more thrilled, I shipped Annie off to her. Alli had described the plan for the photo to me, but I was still anxious to see it. The photo came out even better than I could have ever imagined. Thank you Alli!
Photos of a garment on a dress form are great for communicating the shape and details, but it’s so helpful to see the garment on a person. Here’s a photo of Annie styled with a pencil skirt and skinny waist belt.
New pattern! The first of my self-published patterns became available today. This one is called Annie. It’s a sweet little tank worked in a vine stitch pattern with a square neck. The neckline is my favorite part. It looks really cute worn with a belt at the waist. I’ll get some fashion shots taken soon. The pattern is only available from JordanaPaige.com as a pdf, so you can start knitting immediately.
You may notice things look a bit different around here. Last night our new site went live. It was time bring the shopping cart into 2008. There’s lots of nice features to make the shopping experience easier and more will be coming. This is just Phase 1. I wanted to get the site up so that the new pattern could be purchased.
Hey shopping procrastinators! We’re in the last couple days of having orders delivered by December 24th. I’m offering a special get-it-there-in-time shipping discount, just $12/bag from now until Thursday 2pm, PST.
Shipping is all I’ve been doing. The warehouse is clearing out. I can actually see the back wall. I know it’s going to get filled up again, but still, it’s a huge sense of accomplishment for me.
I’ve been doing a lot of knitting lately. Unfortunately, I can’t share details with you yet. But know, it is good! I can tell you about the yarn. I love shiny yarns. They make a garment really elegant. If you haven’t discovered Karabella’s vintage cotton yet, check it out. It’s gorgeous. I’m working with #303, the gold one.
