Finishing a Trapeze jacket isn’t easy, but worth it

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

A finished Trapeze Jacket! It looks great. This jacket is not a quick knit, which is probably why it’s the first one I’ve personally seen finished since the pattern was published.

But, the finished sweater is totally worth it. I’ve been wanting to make one for myself since I designed the pattern and just haven’t had time. Firebrunette has inspired me to move it to the top of the “to-knit” list. I really like the green yarn she selected.

Also, for those wanting to see more photos of my design, Hot Cocoa, from More Big Girl Knits, Amy has uploaded additional photos on Ravelry. They’re photos that aren’t published in the book.

When it’s chilly, it’s time for Hot Cocoa

New JP pattern! It’s called Hot Cocoa Jacket and it’s published in the book titled “More Big Girl Knits.” It’s a double-breasted jacket with a shawl collar. The stitch pattern slants inward above the waist and outward below to define the waist. Unfortunately, there isn’t a photo in the book of the jacket straight on to really show the effect, but just like wearing large horizontal stripes will make a person look big, the direction of the slanted stitch pattern has the opposite effect and really slims.

The yarn, which is oh so warm and cozy, is RYC Cashsoft DK (merino/microfiber/cashmere) and is available in over 20 colors.

Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines!

One pattern submission down, well almost. I’ve been frantically working on a pattern and sample for Reynolds’ spring line. It has some lace along the neckline. I spent 6 hours knitting last night. I finished only six rows, three of which were all purling. Ahh!

It really isn’t a difficult pattern. I don’t know what my problem was other than being too tired and distracted. How many times can a phone ring at night?

I got up this morning and was able to finish it with no mistakes. I LOVE it. It is definitely the cutest sweater I’ve ever designed. Very simple, but very sweet.

I purchased Knit Visualizer to help me chart the lace pattern. How did I get by without this program before? It saved me so much time when working decreases within the lace pattern. No erasing stitches on graph paper everytime something needs to be changed. And, it prints out the chart and instructions in a nice format which I can submit with the pattern instructions. Thank you Knit Foundry!

Now I just have to size the JCA pattern and then I can get back to working on my sweater for Big Girl Knits 2. The deadline is in a couple weeks and I’m starting to get worried about finishing in time.

Getting excited about accomplishments

plus size knitting patterns bookI was poking around the web today and made my way over to Jillian’s blog. Oh look, I thought to myself, Jillian received a copy of her and Amy’s book, Big Girl Knits. I scrolled down the page and there is a photo of the back of the book…that’s my skirt pattern! I gasped and my sister came in wondering if it was something good or bad. I showed her and we both squealed with excitement.

I was truly surprised by this. I even saw Amy and Jillian at the show in San Diego and they didn’t mention it to me. I’m just thrilled to have it on the back cover. The closest I’ve ever been to having one of my patterns on the cover was in an issue of Vogue Knitting. My pattern made it to the table of contents. At this rate I figure I’m on my way to the front cover!
