Mom’s Emmery

moms emmery photos

Last June my mom cast on Emmery. Voila, it’s done! She’s so pleased the sweater (knit in Ultra Alpaca Light by Berroco) and I think it looks great on her. It’s the first Jordana Paige pattern she’s knit. Sold on the fabulousness of top-down sweaters, she’s now cast on Landon.

Wendy’s Catalina

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

wendy's modifications on catalinaWendy has finished making Catalina. It fits her so well! Just beautiful. Wendy used Lisa Souza Baby Alpaca Silk in Mulberry. She made two modifications; the front band is a bit wider and the sleeves are full length. She used the stitch pattern from the lower half of the cardigan to trim the sleeves. Very pretty.

Download the pattern for Catalina here.

Erin’s Catalina

erins catalina photos

Just in time for spring, Erin has finished knitting Catalina. She used 2 skeins of SweetGeorgia Yarns Merino Silk DK.  It’s hard to imagine any knitter not having a Raverly account, but just in case you don’t, the notes from her project page are below. Erin mentions the buttons hitting an inch below where intended. I think this looks very nice. It brings the band to be around her waist which creates a belted look.

This was my anniversary trip knitting – every year, Dan and I spend several days at a remote cabin without TV or Internet access, so you’ve got to have knitting!

I’m thrilled with this project – the yarn is ridiculously soft, and the design is versatile for my wardrobe. I know others have said the charts in the pattern are complicated, and they are, but the pattern was very clear and well-written and gave easy-to-follow instructions for knitting the sweater without the chart. The charts were just kind of a bonus to save yourself any counting. I used them and marked my place whenever I left off so I’d know where I should start back up.

I ran into only one snafu, which was my own fault. As always, my row gauge was looser than written, so I should have done the neck increases more frequently. As a result, my buttons hit about 1-2 inches lower than they should, which still works, but if I make this again, I’ll probably increase every 4 rows for the neck.

I used literally every scrap of 2 skeins of yarn for a sweater with a 35” bust (knit fro the XS charts due to gauge).

The Knitter’s Satchel in Watercolor

Monday, April 12th, 2010

sketch of knitters satchelThis is a watercolor journal entry by Suzanne Queen. Isn’t it wonderful? I’ve never seen a painting of one of my handbags.  I was so surprised when I came across it. Suzanne is participating in International Fake Journal Month in which artists create a journal with anything in it they would not normally put in. Suzanne is creating a vacation journal to Corsica. Her watercolors are beautiful. You can follow her journal, starting with day 1 here. Also, check out what she carries inside her satchel.

Sarah’s Milas

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Sarah's MilasSarah, the Jordana Paige group moderator on Ravelry who became my awesome sales rep, made two Milas in the past couple days. I’ve been following her progress on Twitter as she’s uploaded photos. Sarah used sock yarn for the beret, rather than sport weight yarn. Love this color on her! Sarah says she’s officially addicted to the pattern.

Annmarie’s Annie

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Annmarie's AnnieSpring is here which means it’s time to put away those warm wool sweaters and switch to some lacy cotton knits…something like, say, Annie. Here’s Annmarie‘s Annie. She made it in Karabella’s Vintage Cotton. It’s on display at Bobbin’s Nest Studio in Santa Clara. Stop by to check it out in person.

Also, how cute is that necklace it’s styled with!

Karen’s Emmery

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Karen's EmmeryKaren bought the pattern for Emmery just a few weeks ago at Stitches West and she’s already done. Knit in lavendar Valley Yarns Northfield, Karen modified the pattern by work a row of reverse stockinette at the bottom, cuffs, and neckline (at the folding points) to make the facings easy to stitch down evenly. She wore it to work for the first time this week; “Lots and lots of comments today about the sweater, from men and women alike! I’m thinking of making another one in light seafoam.”

Manon’s Sylvar

Monday, March 15th, 2010

manons sylvarA finished Sylvar by Manon. Here’s what she said about it, “I really enjoyed knitting this sweater and most of all, I love the way it fits. I am a process knitter, so I often give away the finished product; but this one is definitely a keeper!”

Manon modified the pattern by continuing the stitch pattern all the way to the hem, rather than working garter stitch. She used four skeins of Dream in Color Classy. More details on Raverly. Nicely done!

Kris’ Sylvar

kris' sylvar modifications
Kris knit Sylvar in just 2 weeks! It looks great, doesn’t it? This was her last sweater for NaKniSweMoDo (The National Knit a Sweater a Month Dodecatheon). Congrats Kris! Kris modified Sylvar by working the rib and eyelet stitch pattern through the entire sweater instead of having the large garter stitch band at the bottom.

Sylvar is worked from the top down, so modifying is much easier. Kris took advantage of this construction by trying on the sweater as she went and adjusting the waist shaping to fit her body. You can read more about her modifications on her blog.

Pumpkins Pumpkins!

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Autumn is here and it’s beautiful! Four years ago I designed a pattern for felted pumpkins. It was published in the Fall issue of Knitty. I thought I should dig into the archives to give you a link to this free pattern and a little collage of finished projects made using the pattern.
