A new pattern, just in time for Stitches. Shane is one of those garments that appears to be really tricky to knit, but in fact is quite simple. The fabric is created using an easy slipped stitch pattern to create a fair isle-esque look. It’s knit from the top down in one piece. There are no side seams, which means you won’t have to try to line up the stripes on the sides. The collar is a loose-knit scarf that is sewn along the edges of the vest. After all my indecision on this vest, I’m really pleased with how it came out. Download it here.
This garment, along with all of our patterns, will be available for inspection, trying on, etc, at Stitches West this Thursday-Sunday. Hope to see you there.

Aren’t knitting and the Olympics just a perfect pair? Last night I watched the figure skating while finishing the collar on my vest. I’m going to have to rip it out because I don’t like it, but there will be Olympic coverage all day, so the thought of re-knitting it isn’t so bad.
By now all but a few of you have received your bags from the Handbags Help Haiti fundraiser. I’ve enjoyed reading this Ravelry thread, tweets and variousblogposts as you search for imperfections. So happy to see you’re having such difficulty finding them. Yesterday the money from the sale was deposited into my account, so I was able to get the check in the mail to Doctors Without Borders. Everything is wrapped up now. Just have an interview on Friday with a reporter who will be writing a story on it.
The vest I’ve been working on is blocking. The pattern will be available in time for Stitches West. I still need to write the pattern, knit the collar, get it edited and do a photo shoot. I’m cutting it close, so I thought I would add a little more pressure on myself.
Monday I decided to design a beret pattern for Stitches as well. I’m planning some fun stuff (read: prizes) for Stitches which will involve this pattern among other things. Adrienne of Wool Candy is dying up some yarn for me. She has really beautiful colorways. I have no plans for the beret yet. I’m hoping to be inspired by the yarn. If you have a special request, you can weigh in with your opinion here or on our Facebook page.
One part simplicity, two parts charm, this irresistable double-breasted jacket is knit soley in Stockinette stitch from the top down and has minimal finishing. Emmery gets dressed up with a ruffled edge and funnel neck. An asymmetrical hemline adds an extra bit of eye-catching appeal. View garment specs, download pattern and get knittin’.
Emmery, my newest pattern design, will be available in just a few days. Until then, enjoy this little video of the photo shoot in beautiful Squaw Valley, CA. Keep checking this blog for updates on when it’s available, or join our mailing list by entering your email address over there on the left.
Autumn is here and it’s beautiful! Four years ago I designed a pattern for felted pumpkins. It was published in the Fall issue of Knitty. I thought I should dig into the archives to give you a link to this free pattern and a little collage of finished projects made using the pattern.
Just got back yesterday from spending a week with my family in Lake Tahoe. It was absolutely beautiful there. The first couple of days it snowed, covering everything with a white blanket. We bundled up and did the only reasonable thing we could do…knit. My mom, sister, gran, aunt, cousin and I all headed down to Lake Tahoe Yarn Company. We entered, each carrying a different Jordana Paige bag and had Kelly, the shop owner, thinking it was a bit interesting. I introduced myself to her, which was such a nice opportunity since she carries our products, and made sense of the walking JP show that we were.
I helped my family pick out the yarn and needles they needed all the while circling back to the shelf of Isager yarn. I had no intention of buying yarn, but I finally gave in. It had its hold on me and will be perfect for my next design–a fair isle vest. Isager is 50% alpaca and 50% wool. It’s very soft. The color story is so homey and warm.
After the snow melted (aren’t I nice to my model) we did a photo shoot at Squaw Valley of the pattern I gave you a sneak peak of. It’s my favorite photo shoot to date. Still haven’t written the pattern, but it’s on my to do list for the week. Should have it all ready sometime next week.
Lastly, if you’re in the Bay Area, mark your calendar for Wednesday, October 28th from 5-7pm. I’ll be visiting Nine Rubies in San Mateo with all my knitwear samples and bags. Nine Rubies is a beautiful shop. I’m sure it will be a really fun evening.
This past April I was contacted by Bev of The Knitting Noras in Bolton, UK. Bev asked if she could knit my Party Apron pattern and then use it for a naked knitting calendar. The money raised will be donated to ‘The Christie’ Hospital in Manchester. What a fun way to raise money! Here’s Bev AKA Ms. January. Calendars can be purchased from The Knitting Noras website.
