L.J. Kaelms gets Sockupied

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

I’m not exactly sure why, but socks have really been on my mind lately. Maybe it’s the cold weather. And I just ran into a link for an article about darning socks from a completely non-knitting related site.

So when the Spring 2012 issue of Sockupied arrived, I wasn’t surprised. But I was delighted to see the L.J. Kaelms highlighted in the “Must-Have Supplies for Socks.”

If you haven’t checked out Sockupied, you can get it here. There’s some great stuff in there. Remember our Knitter Profile about Donna Druchunas? She wrote a great article about Balkan textiles: Did you know the shoes were so flimsy they wore two pairs of socks? They’re so beautiful and intricate, I don’t know how they could bear to cover them up!

(She also raves about her L.J. Kaelms: “I like it so much that it’s now my go-everywhere travel purse.” Thanks Donna!)

And of course, there are some of the most beautiful patterns for socks, which means if I decide socks are my next project, I’ll have some tough decisions to make.

For the love of knitting needle storage

Monday, January 9th, 2012

As any child who has younger siblings can tell you, when a new baby comes home they tend to get most of the attention. And rightfully so, because they need guidance in this new world.

That’s how things have been going here lately: the Crafter’s Tool Butler‘s arrival takes our attention off our other products while we guide them (via UPS) into your homes.

Thanks to the latest issue of Vogue Knitting however, we’ve been reminded of just how cute another one of our products is. Wouldn’t you know it? It’s the Crafter’s Tool Butler’s big sister, the Straight Knitting Needle Storage Box!

Check out the latest issue of Vogue Knitting. As usual, it’s full of amazing knits. I’m in love with the cabled topper on the cover. Gorgeous!

The Rio’s Knit ‘n’ Style

Monday, December 26th, 2011

Have you seen the latest Knit ‘n’ Style? It’s got a really cute sweater design in it called Getting Ready for Spring by Sandi Prosser. And what else is in there? The Rio in blue lapis!

The Rio does know how to pose for a fashion shoot. Thanks to Knit ‘n’ Style for the love: “fashion-forward” and “gorgeous” are very nice compliments indeed! Who knows? Maybe I’ll be toting around the yarn for the Getting Ready for Spring sweater in a Rio soon!

The Knitter’s Satchel: A Must-Have

Wednesday, December 14th, 2011

You know when you find something so adorable or awesome, you can’t believe you didn’t know it existed before? Like the first time you ever had a cheese danish? (Seriously, those things are ridiculous.)

Well that’s how I felt when I read this month’s issue of Stroller Magazine. And I’m not even a mom. There’s an inspiring article about a soap company making a difference for Southeast Asian rainforests and children in Haiti, some great gift ideas for kids for those of us who procrastinate when it comes to gifts, and a special section about knitting.

To be fair, I probably wouldn’t have found this magazine if I didn’t know it called The Knitter’s Satchel one of its favorite knitting must-haves of the holiday season. We’re stoked on that, to be sure!

But what a great find in Stroller Magazine.  There’s some absolutely gorgeous fashion and home decorating ideas as well. The digital version is free, so there’s no excuse to check it out yourself. It’s guilt-free, unlike that cheese danish.

Have knitting, will travel

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011

Traveling is something we talk about often here at JP, whether it’s how perfect the Rio is as a carry on bag or what fun Chicago is or knitting cruises to Mexico.

But really, our bags have more stamps on their passports than we do! We just shipped a full selection to a LYS in Iceland and the L.J. Kaelms just made its way to New Zealand for a review from entangled.

entagled collage blog

Entangled has some great things to say about the L.J. Kaelms, in particular about the construction.

“I have to say I’m quite impressed with the quality of the materials used. The red faux leather of my L.J. Kaelms has a nice pebbled effect with a matte finish … The findings (zips, buckles, etc.) used are very solid and obviously good quality – these make or break a bag in my eyes.”

It’s great to hear feedback on things like that, because Jordana puts so much time and effort into designing these details; it’s good to know it gets noticed!

You can read the rest of the review and the magazine by subscribing here. It’s a great issue, with an article about high fashion hand knit design finding its way into patterns we can knit. There are also loads of pictures and stories from places like England, India and New York: more places for us (and our bags) to travel!

Sharing the knitting bag love, Rio style

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

There’s nothing like the feeling of a job well done, especially when you get complimented on it by someone else. That’s part of why it’s so nice to read reviews about Jordana Paige products — when someone likes a design and writes about it, it’s like a giant pat on the back.

Glenna over at Knitting to Stay Sane recently posted a review of the Rio, complete with empty and full photos. We love that because it shows just how much you can carry while still being organized and toting around your knitting.

“Even when the bag is stuffed full, it still sits on my shoulder comfortably. That is pretty darned cool … This bag is not fooling around.”

You can read more about Glenna’s experience with her Rio and while you’re there, check out some of her other blog posts. There are so many good ones, but check out her greatest hits listed on the right.

And don’t forget to leave a comment if you’re compelled. Every good pat on the back deserves another. Thanks Glenna!

Get your wish-lists out!

fun gift lj kaelms

With November officially underway, many people are starting their gift shopping for the holidays. While I love giving gifts (finding that perfect thing is always so exciting!), receiving is always a little harder. I never know what to tell people I want.

Annie Modesitt writes about the conundrum many knitters have when asked what they’d like for the holidays. She talks about the easy backup (the gift card) but also suggests a few things and our own L.J. Kaelms is among them!

“I love to ride my bike, and this fits beautifully into my back basket with all of my knitting stuff, wallet and my biking stuff – bam!  Right there behind me!  There are a lot of pockets, a detachable change purse (I’ve been using it for stitch markers) and it wipes clean very easily (ask me how I figured that out…)”

Thanks Annie for the shout out! She’ll be posting some more gift ideas for the next few weeks, so stay tuned for more. What’s on your knitting wish-list this season? What are you drooling over these days?

Celebrate color with a little Rio love

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Today is the last day to enter the Celebrate Color contest, which has just proven to be a feast for the eyes. Even if you aren’t entering one of your creations (although you should because there’s a Rio for a first place prize), you should check out the entries. The yarn candy corn just makes me drool.

One of the contest’s promoters, Shannon over at luvinthemommyhood, was so kind to write a review of our lovely Rio. She loved it and gushed praises while taking some of the most lovely photos.

I had a hard time choosing what photos to borrow from her blog. So I took a few.

Shannon says this about the Rio: “This bag has changed my knitting life! …  it’s large but not too large, comfy to carry, fit everything but but my kitchen sink in it and trust me…i carry around a lot of stuff on a daily business!”

You can read more about what she has to say about the bag, including what she’s actually fit into the Rio. I’m impressed.

And you should check out more of her blog as well. Her photography is sublime, really. And she’s got some crafty fun stuff going on there as well,  including a delaney dress tutorial, which has to be the cutest little girl’s dress to sew. Thanks Shannon!

L.J. Kaelms sighting in Vogue Knitting

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

There’s a saying that goes “It’s not bragging if it’s true.” And really, why shouldn’t we all celebrate the good things about ourselves and each other?

That’s why we’re happy to see a write up in the latest issue of Vogue Knitting.

vogue knitting fall 2011 jordana paige write up

“Perennial favorite Jordana Paige brings us yet another great bag for toting knits and everyday accouterments: the L.J. Kaelms … it’ll take you from workday to knitting nights.”

It absolutely will! Thanks to the folks over at Vogue Knitting for the shout out. We appreciate it! It’s always great to receive a compliment.

What about those who have the L.J. Kaelms? Do you agree with Vogue Knitting? What do you love about your bag?
